It's Election Day and Sunshine has Cast Her Vote!

kids for barack

It's Election Day! I was so very excited to cast my vote. I am an Obama gal myself, but imagine my excitment when my husband called me and told me that that our voting precinct had a voting booth for children, too. I asked Sunshine if she remembered the book, Grace for President. She said, "Yes." I then reminded her that today was the day for the Presidential election. I went over the presidential candidates with her and told her that she would have to pick one. I did not tell her who to pick. When we walked up to her her booth manned by bored high school students, they enthusiastically handed her a half sheet of paper that had the images of three people on it - the Replican candidate John McCain, the Democratic candidate Barack Obama, and the Libertarian candidate Robert Barr. She looked at the sheet of paper and the squares under each picture of the candidates. She studied each picture for what seemed to be a lifetime. Finally, she pointed to a picture as she called out, "That one," in the squeakiest little voice. The picture was that of Barack Obama. Although it didn't "count," I was extremely proud and unnecessarily relieved.
